East Cornwall premier
Bere Alston 2
Polperro 4
POLPERRO played superbly but Bere Alston did not help themselves with abject defending.
Bere took the lead after ten seconds when Alex Lowe latched onto a ball in the box and lobbed the keeper.
Just 30 seconds later the Cornish side equalised after a poor defensive header from a long ball and their ace scorer Spencer was on the ball to put into the net.
Bere continued to pile forward but lost the ball, which led to the visitors taking the lead, as they swept down the right and and pulled the ball back to a forward to score with the defence missing. Alex Lowe put Bere back on level terms; he raced clear but was forced wide but turned back to shoot past the keeper.
Back came Polperro and another long ball left Bere’s defence exposed. Keeper Mark Webber left his line and brought the forward down but made amends with a superb double save from the penalty.
In the second half Bere pushed Polperro back but every time they were stretched Bere played sideways and back and left them off the hook, although the visitors’ keeper was worked hard and excelled.
Bere Alston changed their defence around. James Follett, being last man, had a mix up with his keeper resulting in a Polperro forward tapping the ball into an empty net.
Bere piled forward but got no further than the opposition’s penalty box. In a rare Polperro raid the ball was cleared into midfield and one of their players smashed home the ball from 25 yards. The difference in the teams was that Polperro’s defence worked as a unit and stopped Bere in their tracks.
