Crediton Utd 2
Okehampton Argyle 1
IN front of an excellent crowd of 139 at Crediton, Okehampton belied their bottom of the table position with a battling performance and were desperately unlucky to come away with nothing from this game.
Argyle were strengthened by the inclusion of Bow’s Dean Jones and the return of Matt Mortimer and Chris Hollands to the defence and matched their hosts in a very even first half in which both sides played some good football but were unable to penetrate each other’s defences.
The home side came closest with an effort in the first five minutes which was brilliantly saved by Harry Geering. Argyle made their own chances as the game progressed, but the score remained 0-0 as half time was reached.
Argyle began to get on top in the second half and Toby Gostling’s clever free kick found Dale Chadwick testing the home keeper Lee Waring. A few minutes later, Crediton had Waring to thank for keeping then in the game as he made two great saves in quick sucession from Ross Voaden and Dean Jones.
Okehampton’s pressure paid off in the 66th minute when Toby Gostling’s deep corner was headed back across goal by Matt Mortimer and Ross Voaden fired home from 15 yards.
Dale Chadwick had to leave the field feeling unwell shortly after this and Brad Ausden came on to replace him. Unfortunately, it was his underweighted back-pass in the 73rd minute that played in Richard Blake to round Harry Geering and put the home side level.
Argyle’s heads went down for a short while following this and three minutes later a corner from the right was headed on by Dave Lee for Ben Pike to knock home Crediton’s winner.
Okehampton came back showing tremendous character but were unable to pull back that vital goal despite courageously pushing players forward.
