Seaton 2

Okehampton Argyle 9

THIS was a thrilling opener to start the new season. After having to delay kick off due to traffic conditions Okehampton had a brief 15-minute warm up before the season’s opener.

It seemed to show early in the game as it took the visitors a while to settle into a formation that worked. With the strong wind, there were some testing balls in the air. However, Atherton and Chadwick dealt with everything thrown their way. It was at the other end where most of the action was. Harry Tickner and Luke Alden for Argyle exploited large areas in behind the defence with both man of the match Brad Ausden and Will Hawking playing key roles in the build up to most goals.

The visitors were 3-1 at half time and although Okehampton had dominated, with a small mistake by them Seaton were still in the game at half time.

Okehampton started positively in the second half and scored early to kill off any chances of a comeback by Seaton. An injury forced an early exit for Chadwick with Chris Ford replacing him only for the latter to be forced off himself nine minutes later with another injury.

Both Josh Tickner and Steven Kinsey were impressive off the bench and after a small exchange of ill discipline Seaton were reduced to 10 with 25 minutes to play.

Argyle made use of the extra man and pressed to secure the win by adding four unanswered goals although a rare mistake at the back gave Dearing no chance to save what was a consolation goal in the end for Seaton before Okehampton finished the rout late on to make it nine.  Argyle scorers Ausden (4), Alden (2), H Tickner, Hawking and Cann.

Okehampton now sit top after game week one with such an impressive display.
