Plymouth and West Devon four
Princetown 3
Yelverton Villa 2
YELVERTON Villa began the first half playing down the slope and put Princetown on the back foot after five minutes when Jonny Leppert carved open the home defence with a superb pass to Dave Harwood, who calmly slotted the ball home past the onrushing keeper.
Yelverton continued to press and looked to have doubled their lead when Ben Maughan ran through the defence and fired in a shot that beat the keeper and, after bouncing of both crossbar and post, hit the back of the net before being scrambled off the line by the keeper.
Princetown's main threat came from Ryan Smale who chased every long defensive clearance pumped in his direction. The Villa defence was held until the 40th minute, when Steve Harwood failed to get his head to a Princetown corner, the ball bounced kindly for the Princetown player to bundle the ball into the net.
Villa restored their lead on the stroke of half-time when a mazy run by Maughan left the Princetown defenders for dead and his cross from the bye-line was pulled back for Harwood to head home for his second goal.
After the break Princetown equalised as Smale rose to head home. Villa pressed hard, with Tom Goswell running everything in midfield, but they were unable to convert a number opportunities. Dan Lee as substitute had an immediate impact when he skinned the Princetown defence down the left before pulling the ball back to Harwood who put his shot wide.
Having survived a few scares Princetown looked to create some chances for themselves and, with 10 minutes left Smale found himself chasing a 50/50 ball against Villa defender Adam Measom. Smale won the foot race to the ball and fired home to give Princetown the lead.
Villa came roaring back at Princetown, and a great touch from Harwood saw his opportunity for a hat trick lost when his shot was smothered by the Princetown keeper.
