Conference South Tavistock 6

Yeovil 0

TAVISTOCK men’s first hockey team played host to Yeovil in their first home game of the season and it was expected to be a big test for the Reds following their back to back promotions.

The visitors had finished fourth last season so the game would be a real indicator to the progression Tavistock have been making.  The away side were the best opposition the Reds have faced before but thanks to clinical execution in front of goal the home side ran out 6-0 winners.

Tavistock raced into an early 2-0 lead thanks to a quick fire double from Mark Forshaw — his second goal found Forshaw in on goal following a 40 metre overhead from Fenwick, as the keeper closed down he showed the composure and ability to flick the ball over the keeper and into the net to double the home side’s lead.

Forshaw and Fenwick then switched roles as the latter was able to convert from close range following a clever pass from Forshaw.

Yeovil came out at the start half looking determined to get an early goal back but a defensive mistake led to Forshaw being given the ball at the top of the D and he did not waste anytime in smashing the ball past the keeper to complete his hat-trick.

He then claimed his fourth of the game after another high through ball from Fenwick.

Bob Carr capped another impressive performance when he scored his side’s sixth.

Tavistock looked extremely solid in defence with summer signings Chevin and Jeffrey slotting in well with the established Marchant and Willetts and had a strong midfield in Honey, Blonden and Stanbury.

The home side also received a mid week boost when Ollie Richards was passed fit to rejoin the squad.

Tavistock sit second in the table on goal difference.
