Duchy 3

Okehampton 1

ON a windy day in Cornwall, Okehampton men's first team travelled to play Duchy.

The hockey game looked to be a closely contested affair from the off and with almost the first attack of the game, Okehampton were able to scramble the ball into the net through skipper Parsons. This seemed to spark something in the home side and within quick succession they scored two and in moments Okehampton were behind.

The game played on from here in a heated and aggressive manner. Tackles were hard, players were frustrated and Oke fought admirably to get back in the game. Sliding tackles from Miller in the middle of the park helped make Oke apply pressure via counter attacking hockey.

The visitors' defence remained as solid as ever with Liversidge controlling the middle assisted by Cooper and Aylen with their valiant efforts on each side.

When the second half started the Okehampton side looked to draw level, but with a collision in the middle they were set back with a nasty injury to Simon Bourne, who had really come alive in the second half. With Miller and Parsons finding themselves in more space chances were forming and with good link up play from Stephens, Oxenham, Speak and Whally in the midfield, they looked in more control. However, this quickly diminished, when a slick counter attack led to a goal to Duchy.

Okehampton, to their credit, did not give up and they fought till the bitter end. There were positives for the side to take away.
