THE Newquay festival brings together the main Cornwall and West Devon teams for a round robin tournament.

Tavistock with their usual partners Newquay dominated all of their matches with the exception of Devonport who held their own until the second half when Tavistock ran in three tries.

TAVISTOCK's first match was against old rivals Liskeard. Against the wind blowing off the sea, Tavistock worked hard in the forwards keeping the ball close working their way slowly up-field. Into the 22, Chloe Dawe emerged from the melee to crash over under the posts.

There was a moment of magic on the left wing. Daisy Phillips saw space on the left, but offloaded to Zoe Pluckrose; a neat pass back to Daisy, then returned to Zoe and finally off-loaded to Daisy who found the space to run in a spectacular try.

Two more tries were run in by Amber Barnicoat before Tavistock relaxed a little after recognition that there were two more matches to play. Liskeard took advantage of this to claw back five points.

THE match against North Devon Vixens of Bideford proved to be more difficult than expected, as they are a new team and were well beaten last year. They put up stern resistance until they were let down by their tackling. Hard running from Ebony Jeffries and Ebony Barnicoat each broke through twice and Lizzie Crocker rounded off the scoring.
