Tavistock ladies’ firsts 6

Okehampton ladies’’ firsts 2

OKEHAMPTON travelled to Tavistock on an unexpectedly wintery day, with heavy downpours of rain and sleet for almost the entirety of the hockey match.

An eventful first half saw the visitors have some early breaks, including an agonisingly close goal mouth scuffle resulting in a penalty that was saved by the Tavistock keeper.

Undeterred, Oke worked hard defending but ultimately conceded two goals.

Quick passing through the midfield and forward line gave Fenwick the opportunity in the D to open the lead up at 1-0. Momentum was high and Tavistock soon followed up their lead, a great ball came through from centre half Headon to allow Law to open her scoring tally and take the lead to 2-0.

Okehampton fought hard and created a couple of quick breaks through to their forward line, however the Tavistock defence of Colwill, Evans, Pollock and Scott were proving a tricky bunch to get through

A chilly Oke side struggled to get going in the second half, and Tavistock who added to the score sheet, following some nifty work from Nevin and Lamb junior, which allowed Law to strike home.

However, Okehampton then fought back strongly with a solo effort from Jo Moppett, who catching Tavistock off guard still celebrating from their last goal, wound her way up the pitch before striking to put Oke on the scoreboard for 3-1.

The home side reacted to the pressure and hit straight back on the Oke defence when Fenwick and Law once again added to the score line and took it to 5-1. However, the visitors came back with a goal by Hannah Whiteley following good passing between her and Moppet.

Oke came under pressure and struggled with the increasingly flooded pitch but were pleased not to concede any goals from penalty corners thanks to the superb keeping of keeper Alice Wiseman.

Oke continued to defend well with superb clearances from Captain and man of the match Kim Davey, but were unable to close the gap on Tavistock.

Although drenched the Tavistock ladies kept working hard and finished with a beautiful team goal, a ball through to Lamb senior enabled her to show her trademark skills and slip the ball to Fenwick who completed her hat-trick and take the final score to 6-2.
