Heather Fell, Olympic modern pentathlete silver medalist, writes about her life 'on and off' the track.

Let the Games begin. Can you believe it! More than seven years ago London won the bid to host the biggest sporting event on earth and now it has arrived. It may seem that Devon is a long way from all the action in the capital and it does feel that way when trying to negotiate the various modes of transport to travel from the Westcountry to East London, but I really do believe the whole nation is buzzing especially now the medals have started rolling in for TeamGB.

I felt quite at home on Friday night sat in the Olympic stadium watching the opening ceremony with sheep, tractors and even horses wondering about. I was incredibly excited when about a month ago I received a letter asking if I'd like to attend as a medallist - of course I jumped at the chance. The buzz among the 80,000 people was electric and from what I've heard it was shared by millions watching at home. I just hope by the end no one was still watching as apparently Tavistock's two medallists were live on the BBC showing off some special dance moves!

I have been asked several times if I am struggling with the disappointment of not competing in this Olympics but so far I can genuinely say I am having an amazing time. Outside of the competitions there are parties, concerts and various media opportunities. Even before the games began I joined thousands in Hyde Park to soak up the sunshine, enjoy a drink with friends and dance to some live music - oh and welcome the torch, having not seen it since it left Devon months ago.

I seriously hope wherever you are you can get as excited as me and enjoy this sporting spectacle over the next couple of weeks.
