ANOTHER week, another new sport; I found myself in the water where I should be more at home, but strap a board to my feet and suddenly it's not so natural.
I ventured up to the Cotswold water park for a spot of wakeboarding. Having had a taster water-skiing session when at primary school (admittedly it was next to the boat with a bar) and successfully stood up on a wakeboard behind a boat on holiday in the Med, I was quietly confident that using a cable would be simple. Oh how wrong I was! My arms and shoulders are still reminding me several days later.
This time next week the Olympics will be well underway and it is starting to feel very real. Even the arts are embracing it and a fine example of this is the current west end production of Chariots of Fire, which as part of the Pentathlon squad I had the delight of watching. I didn't want to waste a trip to London so managed to combine it with dropping in at the BBC on my way home to make a short appearance on the late night Fivelive show.
Fingers crossed, I'll have the opportunity for a few more over the next couple of weeks with many visits to the capital planned.
With so much sport going on, I have to be involved, and as I attempt to keep fit over the summer I entered a couple of events for fun. This week it was the Tavistock town relays and the Devon Open — however my friends wedding on Saturday possibly dampened my performance at the latter.
Some athletes who were taking that competition a little more seriously were the Swaziland Olympic team. It has been a real honour for Tavistock to host them and a lot of hard work by many locals has gone into their stay here in West Devon.
I was lucky to attend their send off with a BBQ from our farm accompanied by some (desperately needed) wonderful summer weather.
