THE inaugural West Devon Primary Hockey Cup hosted in Okehampton attracted 120 children in 15 teams from eight schools —Okehampton, Bridestowe, Hatherleigh, Horrabridge, Milton Abbot, North Tawton, St Andrews and Milton Abbot.
On a lovely sunny afternoon all teams took part in a number of games of high standard and enjoyment before Horrabridge, North Tawton, Hatherleigh and South Tawton emerged to compete in hard fought semi- finals.
The final was between an excellent Hatherleigh team and a quick and well drilled South Tawton team who quickly took the lead with some free flowing passing moves and eventually ran out well deserved 4-1 winners
The event was organised by Okehampton Hockey Club, Okehampton Schools Sports Co-ordinator and OCRA.
South Tawton team captain Ben Bowles said: 'It was very good, and the tournament was a lot of fun. We found it a bit annoying to concede a goal in the final, but we played well. It was down to no-one being lazy, everyone working hard and working together and playing well as a team.'
Stuart Lord, school sports co-ordinator, said: 'This event was a testimony to the buzz there is locally about hockey, through years of hard work by the club, delivering and getting hockey kit, training, festivals, young leaders and coaches into schools settings as well as their fantastic Saturday morning sessions.
'This local development of hockey has also been well supported by Okehampton United Charities.'
South Tawton go forward to represent the area in the Devon Finals.
