THREE athletes from Tavistock Athletic Club have returned in triumph from the Virgin London Marathon. Roger Hewitt, Ann Woodhouse and Jackie Ralph not only completed the 26.2 mile route, but all three set new club records in their respective age groups.
Roger Hewitt has competed in the London Marathon five times previously and he was first TAC to finish, in 3 hours 56 minutes 17 seconds. Roger broke the previous club record for his age group over the distance and also raised £300 for HeartSWell, a local charity which supports heart patients and their carers.
Ann Woodhouse, running her sixth 'London' completed in 5.58.46 set a new club FV65+ record. Ann enjoyed her race proving that there is no age limit on your dream of re-living or improving your running potential.
Jackie Ralph was running her first marathon. Only three years ago, Jackie joined the TAC beginners group, the Tavy Joggers, having never run before. Her determination and training stood her in good stead, and she was delighted to finish in 5.16.09, knocking over 13 minutes off the FV60+ club record. She also raised £1,700 for ABF - The Soldiers Charity which supports soldiers and their families.
Tavy Joggers is meeting at Tavistock College sports field for the next nine Tuesdays at 7.45pm. For more details, please telephone 01822 612577.
