Exwick Villa 0
Tavistock AFC 1
TAVISTOCK continued their unbeaten run when they won by the only goal of the game on Easter Monday. Once again they should have won by a greater margin as they dominated for long periods in the game.
Tavistock created numerous chances but poor finishing and the lack of a final quality pass in the opposition penalty area resulted in them only scoring once during the 90 minutes.
The game was only six minutes old when Kelvin Fyneboy blasted his shot wide of the target when well placed. Ten minutes later Jack Thomas sent in a great cross from the left but Fyneboy shot over the bar from 15 yards. Shortly afterwards Daw carried the ball out of defence his pass to Fyneboy was flicked on to Edwards but he shot well wide of the target. The Lambs continued to control the game but were denied by the Exwick goal keeper making several fine saves. Midway through the half Lewis Edwards had a great chance to open the scoring but his shot was deflected for a corner kick, which was cleared. Martin Piper then had to make a comfortable save to deny Exwick taking the lead.
In the 40th minute following a fine move the Exwick keeper made a superb double save to deny Kelvin Fyneboy. His first shot from 20 yards rebounded off the diving keeper into his path and somehow the keeper managed to turn his second effort around the post for a corner kick.
The Lambs created a couple of opportunities which they failed to convert as the first half remained goalless.
The second half continued with the Lambs on top but they failed to find that final pass. Carlton Fanham got to the dead ball on several occasions but he could not deliver the final ball to pick out his team mates in the penalty area.
On the hour substitutes Jack Crago and Jordan Williams came on came on for Edwards and Thomas, their additional pace immediately had an impact on the game. First Crago had a shot well saved and Williams was unlucky when he fired just over the bar.
It was Crago who broke the deadlock when he rifled the ball into the top corner of the net from 20 yards out, after a fine move with Hallett, Robins, and Farnham exchanging passes.
This stirred the hosts into action as they rallied and almost equalised when a speculative cross come shot from the right clipped the top of the cross bar and ran out of play. Crago then had a chance to seal the game but his shot was well saved by the Exwick keeper.
Farnham then lobbed the Exwick keeper from 20 yards out but the ball hit the bar and was cleared to safety.
The Lambs' defence was in fine form throughout the game and saw the game out to give the Lambs the three points. Once again this game should have been out of reach of the home team by half time having dominated the first half.
The Tavistock defence looked really sound, with Sean Manley and Lewis Daw dominating the centre of defence with both full backs Will Stringer and Josh Robins in excellent form.
Tavistock must try to improve on their shooting, in order to turn their dominace into goals. With six games to go the Lambs are still in the hunt at the top of the league, with three games at home.
Tavistock AFC 2
University of Exeter 0
THE Lambs came out on top in this important match as both teams have aspirations of finishing in the top three this season. It was an excellent game of football, between two teams, who got the ball down and played some really entertaining quality football.
Both teams were probing for an opening but both defences were in tremendous form, and although the visitors' keeper was probably the busier of the two goalkeepers, neither side could produce the killer pass so the first half finished goalless.
It was Tavistock that were the stronger in the second half as they increased their tempo. The Lambs were denied from taking the lead by the visitors' goalkeeper making two great saves to deny Fyneboy and Williams.
Tavistock got the deserved break through with fifteen minutes remaining when a great through ball found Jack Crago; he out paced the visitors defence and slotted the ball past the advancing keeper for the home team to take the lead. The home team continued to press forward and were rewarded in the 85th minute when Crago became provider as he broke clear and provided a lovely waited pass to Kelvin Fyneboy, who made no mistake from eight yards.
This was a really good performance from the Lambs against a very good University side, who are in the hunt for honours this season.
Plymstock United 0
Tavistock AFC 2
TAVISTOCK followed up their fine 2-0 win over title contenders Exeter University in mid week with another commanding performance at Plymstock.
They dominated the game for long periods and only the lack of clinical finishing and a fine goal keeping performance from Plymstock goal keeper Rickard saved the home team from a much heavier defeat.
The visitors started at a fast pace, playing some really attractive football and created their first opportunity to open the scoring but Stuart Clark's fierce shot was well saved by Rickard. Three minutes later Carlton Farnham was brought down just outside the penalty area, but Will Stringer's free kick was well saved by Rickard.
In the 20th minute a shot from Kelvin Fyneboy was tuned away for a corner kick. Dave Hallett's cross into the area found Lewis Daw; his powerful header looked destined for the net, but it was cleared off the goal line by a defender. Two minutes later another corner kick by Hallett saw Daw put his header inches wide of the target.
The home team were struggling to get out of their half and were restricted to odd counter attack. However, in one attack they were awarded a free kick 20 yards from goal, but the shot by Styring was blocked and cleared to safety.
In the 40th minute, after a fine move involving several players, the ball found Carlton Farnham in space inside the penalty area but his effort was thwarted by a magnificent reflex save by Rickard in the home goal.
A minute before the interval another fine move between Fyneboy and Jordan Williams opened up the home defence but Williams' shot was inches wide of the target.
The second half continued in the same vein with the Lambs creating numerous chances to open the scoring. Straight from the kick-off Fyneboy had a goal bound shot blocked by a defender. Dan Follett then shot over the bar when well placed.
In the 50th minute Maskell put Fyneboy clear with a great pass but he blasted his shot well wide from ten yards. Five minutes later a terrific move down the left with Farnham, Robins and Fyneboy exchanging passes saw Robin produce a terrific shot which Rickard brilliantly turned away from a corner kick.
The visitors continued to press forward but Plymstock with some resolute defending and lady luck continued to frustrate the visitors.
Lewis Daw carried the ball from defence in his own half and unleashed a thunderbolt from 25 yards from goal but his shot whistled inches over the cross bar. Kelvin Fyneboy then looked to have been pulled down in the penalty area but the referee waved play on.
Just as it looked like it was going to be one of those days the Lambs finally got the breakthrough they deserved in the 80th minute. Dave Hallett fired in a free kick at pace and Lewis Daw found space to score from close range.
The Lambs doubled their lead seven minutes later when a fine move down the left saw the ball find Kelvin Fyneboy who converted the cross from Farnham with a aplomb as he glanced the ball into the corner of the net giving the exposed Rickard no chance of saving.
