TAVISTOCK runner Emily Attfield has been selected by England Athletics to represent the South West in the Virgin London Mini Marathon on April 22. 

Emily has been competing for Tavistock Athletics Club and has had an excellent cross country season, including selection for inter-counties held at Birmingham and English Schools at Ilton.  She will make up a team of six U13 girls and will stay at the Royal Holloway College in Surrey with the South West team. 

The young athletes will be taken to the Old Billingsgate Market in London where they will be joined by more athletes representing the 33 London boroughs.  Emily's race will start with 300 girls, including those from Northern Ireland, Scotland, Wales and other English regions. They will run the course which is the last three miles of the main marathon distance passing major attractions, such as, The Embankment, Westminster Bridge Street with Big Ben in front of them, Birdcage Walk and then will turn in front of Buckinham Palace to finish through the marathon gantries in The Mall. 

Emily's race will be in front of television cameras and a massive crowd will line the streets waiting for the competitors of the main marathon to finish.
