TAVISTOCK schoolgirl Chantel Whiting who won The All Female Box Cup in Esker, Ireland in October — the biggest competition of its type in the world — is now on track to achieve national championship status.
On Saturday Chantel will be travelling to Bristol with her coach Grant Metters to represent Tavistock Amateur Boxing Club (ABC) in the quarter-finals and is hopeful she will then be on her way to the semi-finals in Rotherham the following weekend.
In February Chantel was sparring at Torbay ABC and following her performance was selected by England coach, Les Brooking to attend training for the England Talent Pathway. On Saturday, Chantel spent the day at Barnsfield Boxing Club in Oxford sparring with national and European champions and she was one of a select few invited to attend the next Talent Pathway Training Session in Tamworth in April.

TABC sent its light heavyweight boxer Pete Jarman and coach Tony Fennell to wash the winter blues away with a trip to Torrington on Saturday.
Pete’s opponent was the strong punching and more experienced Torrington ABC boxer Dean Ayling in the main and final bout of the evening.
Throughout the contest Pete’s superior reach was the deciding factor and coupled with some newly acquired ring skills gave Pete the points decision from all three judges.
