MOTOR racing enthusiast John Simpson from Yelverton is set for three ‘uphill’ challenges next month.
Pensioner John takes on the Wiscombe Park Speed Hillclimb near Seaton in South Devon on Saturday. He will be driving his latest 255bhp MK2 Escort rally car and two weeks later on September 14/15 John is off to race in The Watergate Bay speed hillclimb, the first ever closed, public road hillclimb in the UK. It takes place along the B3276 coast road between Padstow and Newquay. Then the racing pensioner will be lining up on September 21 to compete in Rallyday at Castle Combe Race Circuit near Chippenham in Wiltshire.
His racing calendar does not stop there.
John said: ‘On the weekend of October 20/21 I will be co-driving in a famous historic Mini Cooper S rally car in the Lombard Bath historic rally.
‘That event has attracted an outstanding entry of famous drivers and cars, including the the likes of former world champion Stig Blomqvist in an ex-works Audi Quattro.’
