Tavistock 4

Duchy 2

TAVISTOCK men were looking to build on the style of play and team work they have been developing

They took the push back and controlled the play for the first five minutes with crisp passing through forwards Holland and Stanbury and the midfield re-arrangement, seeing Edwards Snr linking with the high energy Honey, Woods and McDougal.

It was Duchy who took the lead from a well worked routine finding the net.

The Tavistock defensive line working hard saw Marchant command the central zone, Passmore to the left and George to the right with Wood sweeping up behind protecting keeper Mingo through several phases of the Duchy attack. Tavistock always looking dangerous on the break saw a deft touch by Holland to round the Duchy defence and finish to equalise. Surging towards half time saw substitutes Anning, Hanson and Edwards junior joined the game. A lapse in concentration by Tavistock saw Duchy penetrate once more leaving them to the good by 2-1 at half time.

In the second half Tavistock started to take control and press the Duchy side with good movement off the ball. Crisp passing saw Holland engineer another goal levelling the game and a new desire was seen in the Tavistock side.

Flowing hockey by the home side led to a pass for Edwards Jnr as he calmly rounded a prostrate Duchy full back and flicked passed the keeper to give Tavistock the lead.

The Tavistock men passed well and worked for each other to provide Edwards Jnr with another opportunity that was duly take as the Duchy defence bore down from all sides. As the final whistle was blown a tired but jubilant Tavistock side took much pride in their endeavours to give them a deserved 4-2 win and three points.
