LAST month was a busy one poolside for Tavistock Swimming Club members and head coach James Lake with racing taking place every weekend.

The club’s own Sprint Club Championships took place over two weekends at Meadowlands Leisure Centre in Tavistock. All club members (including masters swimmers and coaches) were invited to take part with many of our newer members experiencing competition for the first time and gaining valuable experience for the rest of the season.

The club’s higher level squads were in action at the Life Centre as Plymouth Leander hosted their Level 2 and 3 national qualifier meet in mid-November. After a long weekend of action 15 TSC swimmers came away with four gold, eight silver and two bronze medals breaking seven club records along the way.

The last weekend of November saw 31 Tavistock SC swimmers head to the festive Dasher gala in Plymouth hosted by Devonport and Dinnaton swimming clubs. The club enjoyed much success with 77 personal best times and 15 gold, 18 silver, 17 bronze medal winning performances; 19 new Devon County qualifying times were set and some impressive performances from the club relay teams. The girls’ freestyle and medley teams won both of their races breaking both the club records.

There will now be a breather now from competition until the New Year when the club’s 32 Devon County qualifiers will compete against top swimmers from clubs around the county.
