Mid Somerset 7
Okehampton A 1
MID Somerset are flying high at the top of the league, but the away side were full of confidence if not of regular players.
Spirits were high despite only playing with 10 men, two of whom — Oli Cockayne and George Morgan —were making their senior team debuts.
The game started as predicted and soon Mid Somerset capitalised on their man advantage and took an early lead.
The first half whizzed by and Okehampton barely troubled the league leaders goal. At the break were 5-0 down.
In the second half the visitors rallied and started to play to their strengths.
Debutant Oli Cockayne started to find his way into the game and made some great runs up the left wing. Full backs Zac Middleton and Oke player of the match Scott Bending pushed forward and soon the visitors dominated play with captain Brett Lawson coming close to pulling a goal back.
Simon Bourne and Jake Lloyd worked hard in midfield for the visitors and Hayden Bond, who is normally in goal, became the team's playmaker.
Oke deserved a goal, and their persistence paid off when Bourne bullied his way into the D, to set up up Chris Luxton who, with a mishit shot which deflected off the Somerset defender, pulled a goal back.
Debutant in goal George Morgan looks set to became a regular in years to come.
Okehampton battled hard and again produced some great team hockey, but with the extra player Mid Somerset came back into the game to make the final score 7-1. Although the score line looks one sided this was definitely not the case.
