Whitchurch U15s v Ivybridge U15s

WHITCHURCH captain Nathan Ord won the toss and elected to bowl on what turned out to be a pleasant sunny evening.

Due to other commitments Whitchurch could only field a team of nine which turned out to be a big advantage to the away team.

Ivybridge’s opening batsmen Ben Privet and Abraham Kopparambil set about the bowlers from ball one; Kopparambil, in particular, dispatching pace bowler Ben Prout to various parts of the ground on his way to a fine 51 not out.

After 10 overs Ivybridge had raced to 90 for the loss of only two wickets.

With the prospect of chasing a big score Whitchurch’s change bowlers, Aidan Hall, Alex Rich and captain Nathan Ord all produced good spells of bowling restricting Ivybridge to only another 28 runs of the last ten overs. Alex Rich was the pick of the bowlers with 3-11 off his four overs. Ivybridge finished on 118 all out.

Whitchurch’s opening batsmen Ben Prout and Tom Pearson set about chasing the 119 runs to win, helped along the way by some wayward Ivybridge bowling.

With the score on 56-2 up stepped the talented Abraham Kopparambil with his spin bowling, in the space of two overs he reduced Whitchurch to 58-5. Left handed Aidan Hall and Alex Rich set about re-building the innings - Hall in particular playing some lovely cover drives and sweep shots added a partnership of 37 runs. With the fall of Hall’s wicket the game was soon over. Whitchurch finished on 102-8.

This was a good game, which included one talented young man, player of the match Abraham Kopparambil.
