Tavistock firsts v Plymstock

TAVISTOCK firsts entertained Plymstock at the Ring on Saturday, hoping to record a much needed victory to kick start their season.

Plymstock batted first, Josh Hocken at number four was the lynch-pin of the innings, batting steadily to record a good knock of 68, and, along with Brian Gaylord who scored 27, put on 72 for the fifth wicket.

Tavistock bowlers stuck to their task, keeping the score down and making Plymstock work for their runs.

Former Tavistock player, and now Falmouth captain, Jamie Stephens, back for the one game, was Tavistock’s hero with the ball, taking 6 for 36 and mopping up the tail with the help of three stumpings from Dave Manning. Plymstock were all out for 178, a below par total.

As in previous weeks, Tavistock’s innings started badly, Barriball and Gray departing early. Snyman and Manning repaired the damage with 60 for the third wicket.

Charlie Barriball, with 41, and Jamie Stephens took the score along and at 145-4 Tavistock looked comfortable but, a major collapse with poor selection of shots meant it was left to Sean Cleave and Richard Edlmann to get Tavistock over the line.
