MOUNT Kelly first XI cricket team continued its successful start of the season with wins against Plymouth College and West Buckland School and came close to a third victory against Blundells School.
At Plymouth, Mount Kelly batted first and proceeded steadily to 133-9 in their 20 overs. In reply the accuracy of the school’s opening bowlers Thomas Douie and Jacob Staig, together with sharp cover fielding from Adam Creasey and Torben Taylor-May, restricted Plymouth College to just 46-2 after 10 overs.
The increased required run rate enabled spin bowler Abraham Kopparambil to apply further pressure and he took seven wickets for just 13 runs as Plymouth were all out for 77 in 17 overs.
In the second match three wickets each from Mount Kelly bowlers Tom Rogers and Oliver Allsop, together with some great fielding, restricted West Buckland to 108 all out. Mount Kelly chased down the total for the loss of only one wicket in 15 overs.
Against Blundells School, Mount Kelly batted first and posted a significant score of 178-3 in their 20 overs due primarily to a third wicket stand of 130 between Ben Grove (80) and Leon Horn (66). Blundells responded to the challenge and in an exciting finish won the game with just two balls to spare for the loss of six wickets.
