MOUNT Kelly started their cricket season on a winning note with victories in a triangular tournament last Saturday over Whitchurch CC and Milton Abbey school, who are on tour from Dorset.

In the first game Whitchurch batted first and, primarily through a partnership between Charlie Barriball (44) and Andy Alford (17), posted a competitive 123-6 off their 20 overs. In reply a solid opening stand of 73 between Ben Grove (46) and Will Bennett (19) set the platform for a Mount Kelly win for the loss of only two wickets with three overs to spare.

Against Milton Abbey, Mount Kelly progressed steadily to 115-6 off their allotted 15 overs with Ollie Allsop (28) top scorer. An impressive bowling performance by Mount Kelly restricted Milton Abbey to 60 all out in reply with Harry Williams (four wickets for eight runs ) and Ben Grove and Ollie Wood with two wickets each being the pick of the Mount Kelly bowlers.

On Sunday, the two schools played a longer 30 over per side match with Mount Kelly batting first and reaching 198-7 due to aggressive hitting from Tom Rogers (77) and Harry Williams (43).  In reply Milton Abbey finished on 129-9 as a result of tight bowling from Ben Hancox (four wkts) and Torben Taylor-May with a double wicket maiden.
