Whitchurch Wayfarers firsts

v Kenn firsts

THE second half of the season started with the reverse fixture against Kenn. In previous years this has resulted in a win for Kenn.

Put into bat Kenn set off like a train. Challoner (49) and Stronge (22) had 40 on the board in the first six overs. When Stronge went Muir (9) kept one end tight as Challoner continued to cause mayhem. When he went at 73 for 2 the game changed. Mason (44) hung around but the wickets kept tumbling. Poole, Kerswill and Sambells taking two each.

The highlight was the ground fielding of Whitchurch. Three excellent run outs ensured that Kenn built no partnerships and a final total of 145 was well below par for the day. As is often the case, chasing a low total can be harder than should be the case.

The early loss of in-form Powell caused a bit of a flutter in the home dressing room but solid batting by the rest of the top order ensured there would be no upset. All contributed to decent partnerships and Cotter (24 not out) delivered the final blows with a cluster of well hit boundaries. The twenty points gained place Whitchurch comfortably in mid-table.
