Lewdown seconds v Ipplepen

LEWDOWN seconds entertained Ipplepen on Saturday in a highly entertaining game which saw almost 500 runs scored in the afternoon.

Ipplepen, with only nine players, won the toss and elected to field. The home side started brightly with Ed Squire and Ollie Brown sharing an opening stand of more than 50.

Brown eventually fell for 57 and Brendon Horn played an excellent innings of 74, ably supported by Kian Burns with 41. By tea Lewdown had scored 311-7.

During tea the clouds gathered and the distant rumble of thunder could be heard. Despite trying to begin the umpires called the players off when lightning could be seen in the distance.

When play resumed Josh Hicks, on his Lewdown debut, picked up three quick wickets. The match became a game of patience as Ipplepen were determined to amass as many batting points as possible and Lewdown could only manage another three wickets to leave Ipplepen on 184-6. Dan Barnes and Sam Spry picked up the wickets for Lewdown.
