Tavistock firsts v Ottery St Mary
TAVISTOCK hosted Ottery St Mary at the Ring on Saturday as they looked to bounce back after a narrow defeat last weekend to Barton.
With heavy rain over night the pitch was a little bit wet, Ottery won the toss and decided to put the home side into bat. Ottery captain, Will Harrison (2-30) got his side an early breakthrough when he bowled inform Billy Barriball for just 5.
James White and Aaron Churchill did not let the early set back get to them as they added 56 for the second wicket but their partnership was broken by Jody Clements (2-29) when he had Churchill caught behind for 32. White remained at the crease and was looking extremely comfortable and showing experience above his years.
The home side reached 83-2 at drinks with a score of 200 plus well within the home sides reach.
White fell just after drinks for an excellent 37 with Clements picking up his second of the afternoon. Clements was in the action again when a mix up between Dylan Aucamp and Tavistock skipper Shuan Daymond left Daymond short of his ground with a direct hit and he had to depart for 2.
Tavistock lost wickets in clusters again with Charlie Barriball being clean bowled by Tom Jeacock (2-17) for 15 and then Aucamp and Rob Milligan also falling in quick succession. The home side were now 129-7 but a partnership of 38 between Sean Cleave and Rob Bone helped them to finish on 182-9.
Tavistock came out of the traps quickly in the second innings with opening bowlers Dylan Aucamp (3-32) and James McGahey (2-11) causing all sorts of problems for the Ottery batsmen. McGahey got his side the early breakthrough they needed when Joe Henkus chipped the ball to cover for 1. Aucamp kept the pressure on and removed Alex Clements for 1 leaving the away side 20-2. Dan Flower looked comfortable at the crease for Ottery but when he edged Aucamp to Cleave behind the stumps Tavistock piled on the pressure. Aucamp picked up his third of the afternoon when he trapped Clements in front and McGahey got his second of the day shortly after when Daniel Jeacock edged to Billy Barriball at second slip, leaving the away side 30-5.
McGahey finished his nine over spell with outstanding figures of 2-11. Rob Johns and Robert Crabb came to the crease and played their shots, frustrating Tavistock as they added 30 runs but Bone (3-29) eventually broke the partnership and wickets began to tumble. Bone and Charlie Barriball (2-23) picked up the last five wickets as Ottery were all out for 101.
Tavistock picked up 19 points after their loss last weekend and will be hoping to make it back to back wins next weekend when they travel to Filleigh.
