Devon A
Tavistock firsts v Cornwood
TAVISTOCK travelled the short distance to Cornwood on Saturday hoping to emulate the home fixture by beating the team second in the table. Cornwood batted first and steadily accumulated their runs. Parker made 50 and Skeemer and Hall kept the scoreboard ticking to ensure a good total was achieved at 233-6. Jay Stevens and Jamie Stephens were the best of the bowlers with two wickets apiece.
Tavistock’s batting display was inept to say the least. A woeful series of shots combined with some good bowling saw the side bowled out for a pathetic 68 with extras being comfortably the top score at 26. Goodliffe and Butterworth were the main wicket takers for Cornwood giving the home side a victory by 165 runs.
Tavistock are now in a seriosly bad position with the derby game on Saturday at Lewdown a cup final, likely to result in the victor staying up while the loser goes down.
Friendlies
Tavistock v Palmers
TAVISTOCK entertained Palmers, a regular touring side, from Hove in Sussex, in a friendly at the ring on a warm afternoon in midweek.
Tavistock batted first. Nick Adams and Charlie Barriball both made good 50s before retiring, Jamie Stephens continued the trend and James White also added 36 to keep the scoreboard ticking. 285 for 7 was a good total in 40 overs. Palmers never looked on course.
Hammy Kerswill was the chief tormentor with five wickets for eleven runs in six overs, while James White’s 2-20 in six overs also helped. Palmers could only muster 133 in reply giving Tavistock a victory by 152 runs.
Tavistock v Rockhampton
TAVISTOCK entertained first time visitors Rockhampton to the ring in a friendly playing 35 overs a side.
Rockhampton, from Gloucestershire, were clearly a very useful side. Jay Stevens top scored for the home side with 55 while Callum Worth and Barnaby Meyicks scored 20 to ensure a reasonable total was gained.
Rockhampton sportingly sparingly used their best bowlers — Willoughby’s impressive 2-7 in four overs was a classic example. 159-7 was not a bad total, but Rockhampton made it look easy reaching their target for the loss of four wickets with ten overs to spare.
Tyler was most impressive scoring a superb 75 not out. Allsopp’s 2-40 was best for Tavistock.
