Barton v

Tavistock firsts

TAVISTOCK Cricket Club first team travelled to top of the league Barton, minus a number of players but still with a strong side including Devon’s Jamie Stephens.

The visitors lost the toss and found themselves batting. Charlie Barriball and James White got them off to a steady start before both were dismissed. Jamie Stephens came in at three and, with Dave Manning, began to build the innings. Both batted superbly putting on a magnificent 200 for the third wicket. Stephens reached a glorious 100 while Manning fell just short on 98, but the partnership meant Tavistock reached 258 for 6, a good total on a fair track.

Barton’s innings never really got going. Crampton with 42 and Shelton with 38 were the best scores.

Dom Snyman for Tavistock clean bowled three of the team and the Barriball brothers got the rest of the wickets between them.

This was a great win for Tavistock against the league leaders and puts them firmly in the promotion race.

l Former Tavistock chairman John Perkins will be remembered with a memorial match at the Ring on Tuesday, August 14 at 2.30pm on what would have been his 80th birthday.
