Tavistock seconds v Abbotskerswell seconds

TAVISTOCK seconds entertained Abbotskerswell on Saturday at the Ring. Batting first, Tavistock lost a couple of early wickets. Phil Stephens and Darren Chappell got the innings back on track, accumulating the runs steadily.

Stephens reached 49 before falling to Thompson; Chappell fell for 33 but Russell, 27, and McGahey, 25, Hopkins, 21, and Gauler and Wayne Downham with decent contributions, all helped to push the score to to a decent 238-7, above par and plenty to defend.

Abbotskerswell captain Tom Heath was the pick of the bowlers with 2-25.

Abbotskerswell started quickly, overseas player Taahin Bulbulla, batting beautifully, and put the normally tight bowling of Lewis and Hopkins to the sword.

At 76-1, and with Bulbulla already having scored 50, Tavistock turned to Steve Bray’s wily spinners to exact the breakthrough. Dan Cowdrey made 35, and brother Ben 40, but Bray with 3-31 and Andy Gauler with 2-38 chipped away at the batting, and Abbotskerswell came up short, beaten by 28 runs.

A good game of cricket for spectators and players alike, with nearly 450 runs scored.
