THE Mount Kelly MCC Foundation Cricket programme for Year 7 and 8 state school children  has begun its ten-week winter training.

Thirty four boys from West Devon and East Cornwall are enjoying intensive coaching on all aspects of the game including technical, tactical, strength and conditioning, with game based learning thrown in for fun.

MCCF Hub manager Brenden Worth said: ‘We are delighted to be working with MCCF on such a high profile programme and the feedback from the boys and parents is fantastic.’

With 38 ‘hubs’ now running nationally, Mount Kelly are excited to have been invited to enter the National Hub tournament with details of fixtures v Exeter and Taunton as well as local county and district teams to follow.

There will also be opportunities for children from across all hubs to have a chance to win a visit to the prestigious Lord’s Cricket Ground.

The hub mentor and Mount Kelly’s newly appointed director of sport, former Essex county cricketer and coach Gareth James said: ’It is a great opportunity for Mount Kelly to give something back to cricket.

‘The MCC are continuing to provide fantastic initiatives, outstanding facilities and coaching for children across the country to play. We here at Mount Kelly are very fortunate to be part of that process and look forward to working with the future of the game here in the South West.’
