WHITCHURCH firsts travelled to Cockington to play St Marychurch Old boys hoping to bounce back from their defeat against Yelverton last weekend.
The visitors won the toss and decided to have a bowl on a glorious summer day. Poole and Towl opened the bowling and restricted the host to nine off the first ten overs. It was a change in personal that got the breakthrough as Meadows bowled Hudson for 11. This was a start of a collapse for St Marychurch Old boys as Kerswill bowled McConnell with the score on 24-2.
The next two wickets fell in the same over as Kerswill took a diving one hand catch off the bowling of Meadows, and Meadows then bowled Malloy for 12 as the hosts were on 26-4.
Off the next over Kerswill bowled Godfrey for six. Meadows then followed suit gaining the wicket of Robbins caught by Powell at short cover. The last four wickets fell for four runs with the highlight being a superb one handed catch by Poole off the bowling of Kerswill. Meadows finishing with figures of 5-16 and Kerswill 4-13 as St Marychurch Old Boys were all out for 36.
Powell and Towl came out knowing the task required and accomplished it within seven overs, as Powell finished with a bang taking 14 off the seventh over.
Powell finished on 23 not out and Towl 17 not out as Whitchurch gained the full 20 points. Whitchurch host Kenn at home next week hoping to gain another victory.
