Stuart Munday memorial match

Tavistock CC v President’s XI

A GLORIOUS sunny day greeted the players for the Stuart Munday Memorial match at Tavistock Cricket Club and, although a slightly later start took place due to a wet wicket, the game was enjoyed by both sides.

During the afternoon many friends and former colleagues gathered at the Ring to witness the unveiling of a plaque commemorating Stuart’s many years’ association with the Club.

A 30 over a side match was played, with Tavistock batting first and making a steady start through former player Josh Stephens, and Ben Russell at the other end who made 32. Matt Puttock gave the innings some impetus with a rapid 41, including 2 sixes. With contributions from Dave Manning and Sean Cleave the total came up to 165.

Over 60’s bowler Stuart Lott with 2-25, second XI captain Andy Gauler with 3-37 and Steve Bray with 2-20 pegged the Tavistock total back.

After tea the President’s XI struggled to keep up with the run rate. Keen kept the score board ticking over, but with Will Scott-Munden taking 3-32 and the other wickets shared around, Tavistock kept the innings in check and, despite an increase in the tempo from Phil Bees, 28 not out, and Steve Bray with 15, the overs ran out with the President’s XI finishing on 145-8 — 20 runs short of the required total.

This was an enjoyable game to close the season off for Tavistock Cricket Club.
