Whitchurch firsts v Chelston

THE first team’s fight for survival was hampered by the weather in the crucial match against the side propping up the division.

The start was delayed and the match reduced to 39 overs a side.

Chelston batted first and made a slow start. Harrison was the first to go, caught behind by Cotter off Billy Barriball (2-21).

Towl then struck twice in his first over as the visitors slipped to 38-4. Kulkarni (44) and Brenton (55) added 103 for the fifth wicket to frustrate the Whitchurch bowling.

Sambells broke the partnership on his way to 3-36 as Chelston collapsing to 186 all out.

At the interval the heavens opened and the game was cancelled.

Whitchurch took 11 points from the game and need other results to go in the favour as the relegation battle goes on.
