A SUPERB spell of bowling from Josh Stevenson saw Yelverton thirds pull off a quickfire and comprehensive victory over Kenn seconds with the game finishing before tea was taken.
After winning the toss with the threat of rain, Yelverton made early inroads into the Kenn batting. They were immediately reduced to 0-3, with Stevenson (4-2) doing all of the damage, helped by Jamie Cooper who took two good catches. It was soon 9-4, with Stevenson picking up his fourth wicket and despite Wride (12) hitting two big sixes, he was sent back by Gary Hutchins (1-14).
Kenn continued to struggle even when the opening bowlers came off, with Jake Earl (1-9) and captain Mike Godkin (1-7) keeping the runs to a minimum. Once Philpott was bowled by Godkin for 1, it was nearly over. Cooper (2-5) finished off with two quick wickets, with last man Connett bowled by Toby Julyan (1-4). Kenn were bowled out for just 42 in 30.4 overs.
The pick of the bowlers being Stevenson, who bowled 7-5-2-4. It was also a good fielding performance from the young inexperienced Yelverton side, with four catches taken in the outfield.
Opening batsman Cooper and Patrick Medhurst-Feeney went out to the middle. Quick wickets were needed for Kenn, and although Connett (1-18) got Medhurst-Feeney caught behind for 2, it was not to be.
Cooper hit three sixes and three fours, finishing the game by hitting Boot (0-14) out of the ground. He ended an impressive 31 not out, with Stevenson at the other end, 9 not out.
It was an impressive performance from the youthful Yelverton side, with the game finishing in just 42 overs overall.
