THIS weekend saw lone lady Bere Alston Trekker Jo Bourton flying the flag for the Trekkers whilst on holiday with her family in Crete.
Jo, along with her children Thea and Bryn, took part in the five kilometre as part of the second Crete marathon event. It took place in Chania, which is billed as one of the most beautiful cities in Greece.
There was a combination of different events, including a full marathon, marathon cycle race, 10k, 5k and 2.5k.
The event attracted thousands of participants, both young and old, from all over Greece and overseas. Registration had been open for several days so participants already had their green or orange t-shirts and the streets of Chania were awash with colour - which was quite a spectacle.
The 5k route started and finished at the municipal marketplace and was a relatively flat course around the Venetian harbour and city. Jo possibly achieved a PB for this event (though was well beaten by both children!) — official race times were unavailable at the time of going to press.
