A CONFIDENT Conservative Z were handed a reality check by the West Devon A team in the Tavistock Snooker League.

Con Z were looking to mount a late challenge to Conservative A’s bid for the league title, but WD A were rampant against their largely ineffectual opponents.

First to the table was Morris against Mayors who was given little chance to make an impact on the frame by the former’s steady play and control of the ball. The normally reliable McKechnie for Con Z similarly was given no opportunity to get into the game by Brookes, who notched up a useful 25 break and left his opponent floundering.

Symons for Con Z mounted a decent rear-guard action against Lawrence and nearly gained his team the point but could do nothing against the magnificent potting of the blue and pink by Lawrence to take the frame. The unfortunate Hall for Con Z drew the short straw against Rich who yet again was in an unstoppable mood racking up a total score of 77 points, including a 22 break, giving Hall little to chance.

So 4-0 down and a potential whitewash for Con Z was averted when Fitzsimmons won a tight game against Taylor, holding his nerve and earned his team a crucial point.

Two out of form teams, Conservative C and Conservative B slugged it out with neither able to dominate the other.

First blood went to Con B with Lillicrap finishing the stronger in an otherwise close game over Toby Jago. Con B’s lead was stretched when Anderson showed some of his undoubted talent with a 40 break to unceremoniously cast aside Dodd.

Con C were not to be phased though with Davies clicking back into gear to overcome Ewings in a high scoring frame.

The scores were soon level with Con C’s Neale taking the pink ball to edge out McKechnie (junior) in another high scoring close frame.

The decider was left to the B team’s skipper Evans to beat Con C’s skipper Jago to give the B team a hard worked 3-2 win.
