IN the Tavistock Snooker League Conservative Z enjoyed a 5-0 win against West Devon D.
Mayors for Con Z was back to his old form after several weeks in the doldrums to take full advantage of a hesitant Shrimpton of West Devon D in the opening frame to take the first point for his team.
Ewings continued in similar vein with a well-crafted win over the veteran Williams, despite a last minute but unsuccessful surge. Over all, the widest margin of the evening went to McKechnie (junior) who applied constant pressure to Murton, while not at his best failed to keep pace with Mckechnie at any point during the game.
Con Z’s Lillicrap (junior) had a slightly tougher game against Decieco. Lillicrap pulled ahead from the off and stayed there until the end, potting some fine shots. It was all up to King for West Devon to restore some semblance of order for his team and he nearly did but Hodge failed to be intimidated by his opponent’s aggressive style of play and calmly outplayed the WD D player in the closest match of the evening.
Top of the table Con A despite being a man short went about their business in their normal confident way to eclipse Golf A 4-1.
Con A’s Carruthers was in total command from start to finish as he took no prisoners to swamp the dangerous Ruth. Endean for the Con A provided a dominant potting display to secure his point while Babb was made to work a bit harder by Golf’s Pope to secure his point. Last on, Evans sucked all the life out of the flamboyant Whitley to make it four to the Con As in his normal dominant way. This is starting to look like a victory procession for Con A as they further stretched their lead at the top of the table.
West Devon A looked like they were on a ‘turkey shoot’ as they raced into a three frame lead with Brookes, Heathman and Rich finding little in the way of resistance from Conservative C.
Then against all expectations, Jago for the Con C’s, proceeded to pull a frame back for his team with an outstanding performance to inch past Morris in a black ball finish. Out of form Neale for the Con C then reduced the arrears further as kept his cool to pull off a re-spotted black ball game victory over WD A’s Lawrence.
Tavy A were made to work all the way as they came from two down to secure a narrow 3-2 win over this year’s surprise package Golf B.
In form Tavy A skipper Evans (junior) was put to the sword by a superlative showing from Davey, who jetted in from London for the evening just to upset Evans.
Golf B’s Gawman had no problems putting his side two up in his game against Lyall, only for Anderson (senior) to pull one back for Tavy A as he cruised past Dee.
Tavy A’s mainstay Dolan then levelled the match for his team with a comfortable win over Treble.
Hero of the night for Tavy A was Hicks as he did what was required to overcome a resilient Congo to steal the game for his team.
