Trelawney two
Truro ladies’ seconds 0
Okehampton ladies’ thirds 5
OKEHAMPTON Hockey Club third team travelled to Cornwall on Saturday in buoyant mood as they won the home fixture against Truro earlier in the season. The away team piled on the pressure from the start moving the ball quickly and accurately around the pitch. Captain Jane Jones received a pass just outside the circle and carried the ball towards the goal before placing a shot that split the defence and went through the goalie’s legs to give Oke the lead.
Within minutes Rochelle Woollacott dodged around several Truro players before finding the back of the net to put the visitors 2-0 up.
Oke’s player of the match Elsa Frangleton used her speed and skill to move the ball forward and put some well placed crosses in front of the Truro goal. The third goal came when Louise Watts picked up one of these crosses and found the corner of the Truro net.
Just before half time Sarah Bazeley was perfectly placed to hammer the ball into the net to give Okehampton a 4-0 lead at the interval.
Truro fought back in the second half forcing Sarah Marvin and Carol Taylor, with support from Lois Rowlands, to cut out some well worked attacking moves through the middle of the pitch. Nicky Pedrick, playing Oke’s left back, was kept on her toes by the speedy Truro right wing but she worked well with central defender Jo Drake to prevent the Truro player from penetrating the defence.
Truro got several shots on goal but Oke’s keeper Daisy Morgan calmly saved them all and cleared the ball wide.
Okehampton took control of the game again towards the end of the second half and sealed their win with another Sarah Bazeley goal.
