Petroc division one Okehampton ladies 6

Dawlish ladies 0

Okehampton Ladies played Dawlish at home for their penultimate league hockey game of the season.

Dawlish started well with Okehampton a little sluggish before they got into their stride.

For the first ten minutes Dawlish attacked deep into the Okehampton half but they were easily held off by confident tackling from player of the match Abbi Colton and Carol Taylor.

Soon Jo Moppett opened the scoring for the home side after the superb partnership of Abbi Colton and Joey Drake fed the ball up the left wing to Lesley Bingham; she gave a snappy knock on to Jo Moppett, who, with an superb piece of stick work put the Okehampton ladies one up. A similar pattern followed for the second goal except Jo scored this one from an acute angle - almost parallel to the goal line.  Kim Davey on Oke's right, gave several opportunities with crosses but she herself was the next to score when Lesley slipped the ball through to her in the circle.

An unfortunate high ball hit one of the best Dawlish backs in the wrist and, with no subs, left her discommoded but bravely playing on.

Moppett scored the fourth after a long ball gave her a good clear run through.  A fifth goal followed a 'bit of a scrum' on the goal line but Lesley Bingham was there to finish it off.

5-0 down at half-time Dawlish came back with more determination to make the home defence work but most long balls were picked up by the ever efficient Jane Jones at centre back.

Play was a little sluggish in the second half with an imbalance across the field and Dawlish held off attack after attack.  Jo Moppett finally scored shortly before the final whistle to make it 6-0 to the Columbines. Okehampton have now secured the top position in the league.
