OKEHAMPTON firsts travelled down to Plymouth to face their penultimate game of the season and they knew it was going to be a tough one.
With Marjons having the first push back Okehampton piled on the pressure from the whistle but within the first few minutes Marjons had a few chances to test the away side.
However, good marking from Nicki Stoneman, Jane Jones, Carol Taylor and Amanda Sim saw these chances disintegrate and the ball was pushed further up the field. Once unleashed with the ball captain Kim Davey linked well with Molly Petherbridge and Lesley Bingham to create several quick and accurate passes. This put pressure on the Marjons' defence but the visitors could not find the back board of the home sides' goal.
Marjons forced keeper and Oke player of the match Shannon Osman to make a handful of saves and the whistle blew for half time to give the players a well needed break.
The away side were raring to go in the second half and made sure they gave Marjons a hard time in the middle of the pitch and in defence but were unable to make anything from their chances.
Marjons tried to move up the pitch but tight marking, strong tackles and movement off the ball from Hannah Whitely, Lottie Rademaker and Tara Davidson saw that Marjons contained them.
With the home side putting pressure on Okehampton, both Ailsa Gibb and Katie Adams worked and marked hard to try and keep Marjons at bay.
After a number of short corners that the Okehampton defence kept out, Marjons' relentless pressure paid off as they scored the only goal of the game.
Okehampton worked hard in the last few minutes to try and create a goal scoring opportunity. This saw a number of short, quick passes from the defence and midfield and up to the forwards who were unfortunate not to take advantage.
