Okehampton ladies 7
Mannamead ladies 1
OKEHAMPTON ladies first team hosted Mannamead on Saturday and after getting off to a slow start conceded an early goal from a short corner within the first couple of minutes.
This gave the Oke defenders — joint player of the match Jane Jones alongside Nicola Stoneman, Rachel Hammett, Anna Cherrington and Carol Taylor — something to focus on and they made sure they did not give away another goal. There was also another solid performance from home goalkeeper Shannon Osman against their Plymouth opponents.
With the strength of the defenders behind them the midfielders worked their way around Mannamead's players with swift passes between Winnie Rademaker and Hannah Whiteley, frustrating the opposition to the extent that a player received a green card.
Soon after that Okehampton had the ball in their D with their first goal coming from one of the players of the match, Kim Davey.
Okehampton did not stop there however, with the extra energy from substitute, Molly Petherbridge, they found the goal three more times before the half time whistle the scorers being Lesley Bingham, Jo Moppet and a second for Davey.
The second half started better than the first for Oke with another quick two goals to give captain Bingham her hat-trick. This coupled with Petherbridge's perfect posting up goal gave a final score of 7-1.
Feeling comfortable with the lead Okehampton focused on defending again. But an unfortunate yellow card shown to Cherrington quickly followed by keeper Osman leaving the pitch, left Hammett to step in earning her joint player of the match award.
Even though the Mannamead ladies had the advantage, Okehampton stayed strong and kept their lead.
