THE paediatric department at Derriford Hospital in Plymouth enjoyed a welcome financial boost thanks to members of Hurdwick Golf Club.

They donated £171 to the talipes service through The Children's Happy Hospital Fund after the golf club held a charity golf tournament to raise money for the department.

The son of one of the club members was born with club foot syndrome, where the foot points upwards and outwards, thus preventing the correct development of the leg, foot and ankle.

Hurdwick club captain Nigel Schofield said: 'The charity event was a superb day and I would like to thank everyone for taking part and raising money for a great cause.'

Faye Nightingale, paediatric physiotherapist added: 'We are extremely grateful to the Hurdwick Golf Club for the kind donation that they have made. This will allow us to replace and update our baby baths, which are used weekly in the clubfoot clinic, get a child friendly wobble board or other balance activity and will also allow us to get some Theraband — a range of different resistance — for the older clubfoot children, to use for resistance exercises'.
