THE golfing season at Tavistock Golf Club continues apace despite whatever the weather decides to do!
The Lady Cap-tain's Prize Day, always a popular and fun event, was played off a 3/4 handicap. Bev Ruth scored 36 points to top the silver division, second Shirley Trevena 31 pts on countback from Hilary Picton. First in the bronze division was Margot Angel 30pts, second Gail Reed 29 pts, third Rosemary Rae 28 pts. Janet Kiely with 34 pts was first in the second bronze division, second Marion Stenhouse 31 pts and third Jenny Kay with 30pts. Nearest the Pin on the seventh, Roma McMahon; nearest the pin in two on the 14th Hazel Cash and Dawn Phillott had the longest drive on the 15th.
In the Elaine Cooper trophy, for players with a 19 handicap and under, Dawn Phillott won the trophy with a nett 76 on countback from Dawn Dennis.
In the men's Kiely Cup Barry Shipton and Gene Thompson scored 79 pts with David Johns and Mark Russell in second place with 76pts. John Harding and Keith Hollingshead took third place with 69 pts.
In the four ball better ball open Max Clarke and George Gawman took the honours with the great score of 48pts. Second Chris Brown and S Flynn (Royal North Devon) with 43pts and Kenny MacKenzie and Rob Sleep were third with 42 pts.
In the monthly Stableford scoring was close — first John Williams 38 pts, second Andy Down and third Mark Taylor 36 pts.
The annual Cooper-House trophy match between the ladies and men veterans is always closely fought and this year was no exception — the men veterans winning six and a half to five and a half.
