TAVISTOCK Clay Pigeon Club are aiming to raise a lot of money for charity when they hold a simulated game clay shoot at Sydenham Estate, Lewdown, Devon on Sunday, May 18. Its annual fundraiser event will benefit the RNLI lifeboats, the Chestnut Appeal for prostrate cancer and Devon Air Ambulance. The 2014 shoot is between 9.30am and 2pm and hosted by Sydenham Estate, courtesy of the estate owners Mr and Mrs Graham Hart, with the co-operation of the estate manager Robert Alexander. In 2011 the shoot donated £2,000 to the Help the Heroes charity and the event was repeated in 2012 and 2013. It takes about five days to set up. It is carried out entirely by volunteers from TCPC and is a way the sport of shooting can give something back to the community as well as providing an event. It also allows suppliers and supporting organisations of the sport to promote not only clay pigeon shooting but some of the many other field activities enjoyed in West Devon. If previous years are anything to go by, attendance figures will be high, with a mixed bag of sporting 'field' shooters and various teams of 'hardline clay' shooters. As always, the stands will be interesting and occasionally unusual such as the straw bale sitting down stand. The ever popular high pheasant will also present the usual amusement as team members decide whether to make a plan as to who shoots what only to see the plan disintegrate once the clays start to fly! Teams of three shoot a flush of 50 targets from each of four stands; it includes high driven pheasant, decoyed pigeon, duck flush, driven partridge. Entries cost £100 per team including a hog roast lunch (£90 if entry received by May 4. Teams can be made up on the day so bring a gun and some cartridges. Re-entries @ £36 per team; £50 pool shoot and £50 'Teal challenge'. Entries on the day close at 1pm. Organisers are also seeking good quality prizes from businesses or individuals for the raffle - these can be anything form a bottle of wine/beer to a 4x4 event day! If you would like to donate contact Tim Deller, the vice chairman of TCPC on 018222 58501 or by email at [email protected]">[email protected] Anyone teams (or individuals) wishing to take part can obtain entry forms from Alan Clayton on 01822 612796 or email [email protected]">[email protected]; Shane Honey, 01822 840454 or [email protected]">[email protected]; or from The Gun Room, 1 Russell St, Tavistock.
