OKEHAMPTON and District Tennis Club held a ribbon cutting event to unveil four new nets, followed by an autumn pairs competition in which the newly fitted-out courts were road tested by club members.
The nets were funded by a grant from United Charities, applied for by club secretary Dennis Chaloner applied for the grant, who fitted them on the courts.
Besides Okehampton and District Tennis club, the tennis courts are frequently used by Okehampton College, OCRA Family pass members and the general public.
The new nets are of double thickness and double stitched for easy maintenance.
The club also held its the annual autumn pairs competition. Players contested in pairs with a well devised and organised method of finding the best competitors on the day, this was run by Angela Herrod-Taylor. The eventual winners were Denham King and Dolores Mulkerrins.
