ASPIRING amateur boxer Chantel Whiting representing Tavistock Boxing Club, flew out to Dublin, Ireland, to compete in the world’s largest all female ‘boxcup’.
Ninety teams and 400 girls entered in the competition across the world from Canada , Sweden, Hungary and many more with the bouts taking place at Christian Brothers’ Sports’ Hall, in Lucan, Dublin.
Whiting weighed in at 51kg on Friday to which she was pleased about qualify at the 50-52kg category.
Chantel, who was very focussed and ready for this bout she has trained so hard for, was drawn a tough opponent from Yorkshire.
Her opponent came out strong, trying to put pressure on Chantel but the Tavistock boxer came out on top, using her reach, power and superior skills. Chantel earned a 3-0 unanimous decision to win a gold medal.
To top the whole weekend off Chantel was presented with a belt for being the best juvenile boxer Esker All Female Box Cup 2017 .
Chantel thanked coaches at Tavistock ABC for all the hard work they have put in, and to her sponsors Redrow Homes, Bodyzone, Venus, RM Builders and Contractors, Body Balance Massage Therapy, and also Fusion Meadowlands for helping her achieve her goals and bring her one step closer to achieving her dreams of qualifying for the Olympic Games.
Chantel is back in training with England Squad preparing her for the next event in London (This Girl Can Box).
