Tavistock CFC ladies 4

TAVISTOCK CFC ladies got off to a flying start against Newton St Cyres.

The high tempo and accurate passing allowed Tavistock to take an early lead as a superb early cross from Heidi Davies met the head of player of the match Sarah Martin for the opening goal.

Soon after a cross from the left by Kirsty Jones, found Davies in the centre who smashed in into the bottom right corner putting the home side two ahead.

Rebecca McMullin and Donna Weeks battled hard in the centre, not giving the Newton players any time on the ball. A lofted ball from McMullin found Davies on the outside of the area who tapped it past the keeper to score her second and Tavistock's third.

Tavistock's wingers, Donna Hone and Jones battled ferociously and worked hard through out. With Martin and Davies chasing everything and pushing the oppositions defence and testing the keeper.

Tavistock's defence remained calm throughout not allowing the Newton players to break through, with Tania Coker working hard on the right to keep up with Newton's pacey players.

Tavistock ladies maintained their high paced pressure and great passing in the second half.

Newton St Cyres fought back but Tavistock's defence continued to hold strong with Chelsea Starbuck and Carleigh Bammens holding the middle while Laura Phillip and Lauren Schuttkacker ably defending the flanks.

Newton began to tire but with the fresh legs of Robyn Hammond, Sarah Blowey and Els Mills-Hicks worked them hard.

A corner by Blowey was struck by McMullin into the bottom right corner of the net, putting Tavistock four ahead before the visitors' pacey striker clawed one back.

Zoe Stock made a superb save near the end of the game as Tavistock's hard work and determination worthwhile and out of everyone's reach in the league table.
