OKEHAMPTON Hockey Club held their end of season awards night on Saturday.
Guest Barbara Reynolds from England Hockey spoke to members about hockey in the Olympic year and encouraged everyone to support their national teams and promote hockey locally.
The junior members received their Skills Awards which they have been working towards during the season. There were several highly commended, bronze and silver awards but there was only one gold award - presented to Holly Davidson.
The U12 girls player of the season was awarded to Molly Marvin with the boys U12 award going to Jacob Jones and the boys U14 player being awarded to Tom Hutchins.
The junior girls trophy went to Rachel Adams and the junior boys trophy was awarded to Jacob Jones.
Carol Chapman, the ladies chairman, reported on an excellent season with the first team winning the Petroc division one and gaining promotion into the South division. Next season the second team will also enter the league providing regular competitive fixtures.
The ladies first team player of the season was awarded to Viv Weatherington and the highest goalscorer was captain Jo Moppett. The second team player of the season was presented to goalkeeper Shannon Osman with Nicki Stoneman claiming the highest scorer.
The most improved player of the season went to Tara Davidson with Jane Jones the club member of the season.
John Jarvis, the men's chairman, reported an enjoyable season for the men's sides. Next season, as a result of league re-organisation, the men's first team will probably be playing in South two and the second team in South East two.
Awards for the second team, Sam Whalley, the most improved player and Ian Miller player of the season. The first team award for the player of the season' went to Rob Hall, and Luke Liversage was the most improved player award. Simon Bourne was club member of the season in recognition for his contribution to the club, and this season in particular, for the work he has put in to help the club regain its Clubs First accreditation.
Graham Woolcock from Devon HUA awarded Pete Sim the Devon young umpire of the year' and Richard Jones the Devon Hockey umpire development officer of the year. Both these awards were for the 2010/11 season.
Both clubs can look forward to next season in anticipation of some exciting hockey and new challenges with different sides to contend with.
