On a beautiful Friday afternoon in February, 200 schoolchildren took part in the first Cross Country Series 2022 race of the year in the Meadows in Tavistock.

The Tavistock area primary schools cross country event was held by kind permission of Tavistock Town Council with young leaders from Mount Kelly in support.

The inter schools sport challenge involved Tavistock Primary School, St Peter’s, Whitchurch, St Andrew’s, Buckland Monachorum, Meavy, Lamerton, Gulworthy and Mary Tavy & Brentor.

The results were as follows:

Year 3/4 girls – 1st Olivia, 2nd Harriet (both Whitchurch), 3rd Matilda (Meavy), 4th Darcey (St Peter’s), 5th Kacie (Tavistock).

Year 3/4 boys – 1st Tristan (St Andrew’s), 2nd Max (St Peter’s), 3rd Oscar, 4th Oliver (both Meavy) 5th Isaac (Mary Tavy & Brentor).

Leading teams – 1st Meavy, 2nd Whitchurch, 3rd St Peter’s, 4th Mary Tavy & Brentor, 5th St Andrew’s

Year 5/6 girls – 1st Zoe (St Andrew’s), 2nd Holly (Whitchurch), 3rd Imogen (St Andrew’s), 4th Eloise (Tavistock), 5th Suzie (Whitchurch).

Year 5/6 boys – 1st Thomas (Lamerton), 2nd Sam, 3rd Rufus, 4th Jack (all Whitchurch), 5th Alastair (St Andrew’s).

Leading teams – 1st Whitchurch, 2nd St Andrew’s A, 3rd Tavistock, 4th Meavy, 5th St Peter’s

The next cross country races will take place on Whitchurch Down on Tuesday, May 8.
