A DUCHY College employee has been selected to work with the medical team for London Olympic and Paralympian athletes.

Britta Sorenson, who lives at Stoke Climsland, (pictured above) and is the curriculum area manager for sport and outdoor pursuits at the college, attended the International Goal Ball Tournament in December working with athletes at a goal ball test event.

She went through a rigorous selection process to be chosen to work in a voluntary position doing sport massage as part of the 'London Prepares Series' for the Paralympic games in 2012.

Britta will also be working with the sailors, swimmers, gymnasts and cyclists, both in Olympic and Paralympic events.

Britta said: 'This is a fantastic way for me to get some great professional development and to be involved in a great competition.

'It will provide me with some invaluable experience working with Paralympian and Olympic athletes and will enable me to use my 10 years experience of working with athletes in sport massage and to build on the work I completed at Athens in 2004.'

Principal of the college Andrew Counsell said: 'This is a great opportunity for Britta to get some hands-on experience of working with Paralympic athletes. This will enable her to share the wealth of knowledge and expertise that she has with students, engaging them in the types of jobs they could have in the future.

'The opportunity to work alongside some world leading athletes is something that Britta will never forget.'
